Do left-handed athletes have an innate advantage? |
In a new paper published in Royal Society Open Science, researchers found that left-handers have a natural edge in precision sports such as fencing and table tennis. Their stronger spatial and motor skills, linked to the brain’s right hemisphere, give them slightly faster reactions that help at top levels.

The Milner Prize Lecture will be given by Professor Iryna Gurevych at the Royal Society in London on 17 November 2025. Professor Gurevych is Professor of Computer Science at the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany. In this lecture, she will demonstrate how the latest advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence can be applied to protect both people and machines from misinformation. |
